iPhone 5s fingerprint scanner in home button: Analyst
iPhone 5S which is rumored to come with fingerprint sensor now possibly have Sapphire-covered home button and that too in convex shape. This is quiet unusual as Apple has been using concave shape button. Macrumors reported that, “KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo… has issued a new research note indicating that the iPhone 5S may include a sapphire-covered convex home button housing a fingerprint sensor.”
Kuo says that concave shape will give space for fingerprint sensor in home button and the sapphire protects the home button from deterioration. And apart from that Sapphire will give a trendy and classy look to the phone.
As Mac Rumors notes, Kuo’s research note explains:
Convex home button creates space for fingerprint sensor; yield to improve. We think that a fingerprint sensor will be placed under the home button of iPhone 5S. However, assembling it could be difficult as the space under home button is limited as it already has to accommodate the Lightning connector, speaker and microphone. Thus, we think the shape of the home button could be changed from concave to convex to create more space for a fingerprint sensor.
Sapphire prevents home button from being scratched. A convex home button could be more easily scratched, so a harder material is required. We believe Apple will switch from plastic to sapphire, whose hardness is second only to diamond. Sapphire would protect the home button from being scratched and the fingerprint sensor from being damaged.
It is also rumored that iPhone 5S will come in White, black and gold colors. The S in iPhone 5S is still not confirmed. It is also said that Apple is going to unveil this phone on September 10.
Let’s wait and watch how Apple’s new attractive features are going to work.
