Nokia had an option to bring Android on Lumia series: Nokia Insider

Everyone wanted Nokia to have Android OS for better functionality and reports say that Nokia also took that matter seriously. According to New York Times,” Nokia could have switched loyalty to Google’s Android operating system after 2014. According to Nick Wingfield’s blog on NYT’s Bits Blog, “Before Microsoft reached a deal to buy Nokia’s phone business, there was a possibility that Nokia could have switched its Smartphones to Google’s Android operating system sometime after late 2014.”This means that Nokia was very much aware of the fact that Android OS can make them stand again. Windows OS is still struggling in the market. Both the parties refused to comment in this matter.

Susan Sheehan, a spokeswoman for Nokia, declined to comment, as did Frank Shaw, a Microsoft spokesman.

A test on Lumia was performed a long before the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft. And it is reported that Microsoft was aware about this project. Nokia using Android OS was not a part of Microsoft acquisition.

If we listen to the critics, it is believed that Microsoft acquired Nokia because of this secret project. Nokia’s large no. of Smartphone operates on Windows OS, so, if Nokia has started with Android OS it would have been a great loss to Microsoft. Nokia and Microsoft signed a deal of using Windows OS in Nokia Smartphone in 2011 and Nokia had an option to quit the deal in 2014. Nokia was criticized for not using Android in its Smartphone and may be therefore they were undergoing the Android testing on their device. It already looses its share in the market because of using Windows OS. Android Os would have brought a push in Nokia’s market share.
